ENERCONF | Cork

Sustainable Energy Focused Cities and Communities Conference

19 June 2019

About ENERCONF

As humans in the developed world now spend around 90% of their time in buildings, how we use, misuse, save or waste energy in buildings is critical to climate crisis adaptation. This is compounded by our exponentially increasing global population, expected to be close to 10 billion by 2050, and by projections that in 2050 the majority of that population will be urban. Our cities and mega-cities are fast becoming the natural habitat of humans. As countries re-grow after the most recent recession, so too is our energy consumption rate on the rise. Collection of data on all of this energy use will be vital to ensure appropriate and successful measures are implemented to curb this rise in energy consumption. The International Energy Agency is a key player in this area; ‘Providing data, analysis and solutions on all fuels and all technologies; helping governments, industry and citizens make good energy choices’.

ENERCONF is a conference dedicated to examining energy related areas in sustainable cities and communities, as described in the United Nations Development Programme Sustainable Development Goal - 11, “More than half of us live in cities. By 2050, two-thirds of all humanity—6.5 billion people—will be urban. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without significantly transforming the way we build and manage our urban spaces.”

This inaugural event will focus on Energy and Building Data, Models and Software with emphasis on the work carried out in the International Energy Agency (IEA) for Energy in Buildings and Communities (EBC) Annex 70 – Building Energy Epidemiology: Analysis of real building energy use at scale.
